by car:
take f.d.r. drive north to where it branches off to the triboro bridge and the major deegan expressway (willis ave. bridge?).
keep to the right and go over the bridge. once over the bridge get over left for the entrance to the major deegan (north).
take the major deegan to the tuckahoe rd. exit.
turn left (east) onto tuckahoe rd. and take tuckahoe rd. to the entrance for the sprain brook parkway north (right hand exit, after crossing a bridge that goes over the sprain)
continue on the sprain until it meets up with the saw mill river parkway.
take the saw mill north.
this will lead into 684.
take 684 north to hardscrabble road.
(this is where it starts to get tricky)
(click on map for a more detailed version)
exit west on hardscrabble road (left) towards croton falls.
bear right at light to take 22 north.
just after the road goes under railroad tracks (about a mile), turn left towards lake mahopac.
the road is called croton falls road but there is no sign identifying it.
go straight at traffic light (about 50 yards). about 1.5 miles from that light there is a causeway over a reservoir; just after the causeway bear left towards mahopac.
about 2.1 miles from that mahopac sign, as you are going up a hill that curves towards the left, you'll see a left-curve-warning sign saying '30 mph,' then another left-curve-warning sign, this time saying '25 mph.'
when you see the '25 mph' sign put on your left turn signal.
with no other warning watermelon hill road will suddenly be on your left.
turn left onto watermellon hill road.
(if you miss the turn you'll eventually come to the police station, the fire house, and then 'route 6.'
turn around and make a right turn onto waterhmelon hill rd. when you come to it.)
approximately 1.1 miles from that turn is the entrance to our driveway.
we're on the left.
just before our driveway is a long white ranch house and then some woods.
on both sides of the road are metal guards.
just beyond our driveway is a little blue house.
our driveway is unmarked.
there is a wooden gate set back from from the road.
put your car in its lowest gear and proceed slowly up the drivway, keeping to the left while trying not to to spin the wheels on the gravel (does nasty things to the driveway).
(be aware of rocks at the bottom of the driveway that might not like oil pans)
there is a parking area off of the big bend in the driveway (obvious); park there and walk up to the pond (also obvious) to begin the festivities.
